Medicaid fraud is an ongoing problem in this country. Unfortunately, many nursing homes commit Medicaid fraud in the hopes of receiving an increased amount of benefits. Nursing homes responsible for Medicaid fraud may falsify records, bill for unnecessary services, or purposely exaggerate on certain documents. As a result, Georgia is forced to spend unnecessary money to investigate and prosecute these claims.
There are several ways to report Medicaid fraud or abuse. The first option is to visit the Georgia Department of Community Health (DCH) website. The DCH is a state funded health agency responsible for overseeing matters of Medicaid and other healthcare programs. The Office of Inspector General is a branch of the DCH, designated to investigate the reports of Medicaid fraud, abuse, or wrongdoing by using an external and internal process. Individuals have the ability to report online, send a letter through the mail, or send an e-mail.

Another option is to report the fraud directly to the office of the Attorney General of Georgia. The AG’s office oversees the Medicaid Fraud Control Unit (MFCU), a sub-agency of the Georgia Department of Law created for the purpose of investigating claims of Medicaid fraud. Allegations reported to the MFCU are handled by lawyers, nurses, and investigators. For this office, individuals can report by telephone or sending an e-mail online.
Furthermore, Peach State Health Plan, a care management organization, works side-by-side with the MFCU to handle cases of Medicaid fraud and/or abuse. The company has appointed a Special Investigations Unit to properly examine the cases. Individuals may report cases to Peach State Health Plan by telephone.
